…bought this coin on eBay & it’s about the size of a dime & very thin. It’s remarkable that this little bit of silver was minted 342 years ago during the late years of the Dutch Golden Age. It is a 2 stuiver from West Frisia, or a Dubbele stuiver from West-Friesland.

Here’s a painting from the Dutch artist Pieter de Hooch (1629-1684) from the National Gallery in London depicting a scene from daily life in 1677 Holland.


Luctor et Emergo is the motto of the Dutch south western province of Zeeland. but i guess you knew that..
…yeah, I have a 1797 duit from Zeeland with the motto on it!!
